Repair Motorcycle Fairing Kit

Motorcycle fairings, to include Honda CBR fairings, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Ducati fairings, especially older fairing sets, can easily become cracked, damaged or just appear very worn, whether this damage comes from wrecks or strain. Replacing motorcycle fairings can cost a lot of money, so, the ability to repair fairings yourself can be a very useful skill. The process, in itself, is quite easy, and requires only simple, common tools.

Step 1
Plug in a soldering iron and let it heat up as you prepare the broken area.

Step 2
Thoroughly clean the surface surrounding the broken area using soapy water and an old rag. Make sure the surface is as clean as possible, as any dirt or contaminants will cause the fix to be less effective.

Step 3
Press the broken/cracked area together, and use the soldering iron to melt surrounding plastic into the crack. Work from the top of the crack, side to side, all the way to the bottom. Don’t worry too much about how ugly the fix looks, because this will be fixed later.

Step 4
Allow the plastic to dry for around 20 minutes before continuing.

Step 5
Use light-grade sandpaper to smooth the fix and remove any ripples or bubbles. Get the surface as smooth and even as possible.

Step 6
Blow the surface off using an air compressor with a blower end.

Step 7
Spray a small amount of plastic gloss coating on an old rag and spread the gloss over the area you just repaired. This will help the fix blend into the surrounding plastic on the fairing. Find more information at http://www.americanfairings.com

Motorcycle fairing is the shell positioned over the frame of sports bikes and racing motorcycles mainly to reduce the air drag. It also protects the driver from wind, weather and debris and cushions the vehicle in case of a crash. As speed of the motorcycle increases, body of a motorcyclist experiences increasing wind resistance that slows down the bike.

With fairings, a biker can duck low and nullify almost all air resistance.

Types of Fairings Depending on Coverage Area Depending on area of coverage fairings may be full, half or quarter. • Full fairing – They cover both lower and upper portions of the motorcycle, minimizing air drag and providing protection to the engine, gearbox and chassis. • Half fairings – They feature a windscreen, extending below the handlebars. Many half – faired models have kits by original manufacturers to convert them to full fairings. • Quarter fairing – This generally comprises a windscreen and minimum fairing around the headlight. • Belly Pan Fairings – These are used in combination with quarter or half fairings below the engine to minimize the aerodynamic lift and to increase the appeal of the bike. Types of Fairings Depending on Their Placement • Depending on their position you can have • front fairing • rear fairing • left body fairing • right body fairing, and • tail fairing. There are some specialized fairings manufacturers that have come up with innovative and attractive fairings, adding a new dimension to the biking experience. Some popular motorcycle fairings brands: • Batwing fairing: Clean aerodynamic shape, easily detachable, 36 inch wide and 17 inch tall, without windshields from Memphis.

Windshields are available in three heights and seven colors. The inner wall is black textured, ABS outer shell is black and paint ready. However, it is not compatible with any other windshield other than Batwing. • AirMaster Universal Deluxe Fairing: Way ahead of time, this subtle and classy styling of Kuryakyn fairings will set a different look for your bike.

The attractive standard features and tempting list of optional accessories make it one of the finest fairings in the market, especially, for music buffs. Stereo, CD, AM & FM, specially designed and fitted speakers, direct ipod control, and glove compartment are some of its distinct features. It can be fitted to all types of bike. • Arlen Ness Fairing: Designed to be used on all front ends, its body is constructed by heavy ABS plastic and the windshield is made of smoked plexiglass. It is smart, good looking and inexpensive. • Premeux Classic Fairing: These fairings give excellent protection from wind and rain.

Made of composite fiberglass, chromed brackets, and black gel coat surface, these are available ready to be painted to match the colors of the motorcycle. Inside the inner fairings enough place for speaker mounts, antenna and glove box are kept. Gone are the days of Dustbin fairings and Dolphin fairings. Today, fairings have become an integral part of design and style statement of a sports or racing motorcycle.

The increasing craze for stylish fairings has encouraged the leading manufactures to come with aftermarket fairing kits to be fitted to their respective models. They are now offering a whole new updated range of fairings that may be full or half, depending upon the choice. It is time to gear up for a whole new biking experience!
